kruh spring 2018 : Anupama Kundoo + C.Cappai and M.A.Segantini

Internationally recognized Indian architect Anupama Kundoo will visit Prague for the first time. At a lecture taking place on Thursday, April 5, at CAMP – IPR Prague, she will speak about the issues of rapid urban development and housing availability. Her lecture will be complemented by the Italian studio C+S architects, which addresses questions about how to integrate contemporary architecture into old structures. Both invited guests successfully exhibited at the Venice Biennale of Architecture 2012, chosen by Pritzker Prize winner Alejandro Aravena. The lecture is organized by the KRUH association.
“My designs are not motivated by the fear that the world will someday end, but by the search for ways to make the most of what we have,” says Anupama Kundoo, who has long lived in Spain. In her first lecture in Prague, she will discuss housing availability, the depletion of natural resources, and the importance of education. “Knowledge gives power. Future projects must be sensitive to the environment while also having socio-economic benefits. In the current context of rapid urbanization, housing availability, not only in terms of money but also in terms of environmental impact, is becoming an increasingly important issue. We must learn to distinguish between what is genuinely necessary and what is excessive, so that cities not only survive but also thrive,” she adds on the topic of her lecture.
Anupama Kundoo focuses on material research and experiments with architecture that has a low environmental impact and corresponds to the socio-economic context. Many of Anupama Kundoo's buildings can be found in India, but she implements her architectural, research, and educational projects worldwide (Berlin, London, NYC, Brisbane, Madrid). She currently serves as a professor at IE University in Madrid. Her work also intersects with urbanism and spatial planning, with experience primarily in issues related to rapid urbanization, which she also writes about intensively. Anupama Kundoo represents women in architecture within the lecture series Alternative Perspective.
The second guest will be the Italian studio C+S architects, whose main architects are Carlo Cappai and Maria Alessandra Segantini. The studio works in various fields of architecture: from landscape design and urbanism to designing objects of various scales and interior design, for both private and public sectors. C+S architects have received several architectural awards, including a nomination for the Mies Van der Rohe Award 2009 and exhibited at the 8th Biennale of Architecture in Venice, where they captivated audiences with their red pathway titled "aequilibrium." In the installation, the architects successfully integrated contemporary architecture into old structures.
The Alternative Perspective lecture series will present a number of architects from Germany, France, Spain, and Italy this year. “We have reached out to other prominent figures who complement the previous cycle, which showcases unique and exceptional achievements in architecture and urban creation. This year we will touch on topics such as social housing and construction in war zones, destructivism, urban planning, and other areas of architecture,” adds Marcela Steinbachová.
More information about the April lecture can be found at www.kruh.info. The lecture will take place on April 5 at 7:30 PM in English without interpretation; ticket prices are 80 CZK for students and 100 CZK for adults. Tickets are available in advance through the GoOut network.
