On Thursday, March 1, 2018, at 7:30 PM at CAMP (Center for Architecture and Urban Planning) Vyšehradská 51, the first part of this year's lecture series Another Perspective will take place. This year's edition of the lecture series Another Perspective will be opened by Swiss architects! We have invited Marc Angélil, a professor at the prestigious ETH University in Zurich, and Raphael Zuber, a graduate of this school, to Prague. How does the outlook on climate change influence architecture? And how does the space in which we live affect us? These will be just some of the topics discussed in this year's first lecture. Marc Angélil: Designing and Resources In his lecture, Marc Angélil will present experiments that examine the use of energy and material resources in the creation of architecture. Special attention will be given to the concept of "zero-emission architecture," supported by concrete examples. He attempts to redefine the notion of "sustainability" in light of two related questions: How can architecture contribute to addressing the impacts of climate change? And how does the prospect of climate change influence architecture? During the lecture, questions from architectural, technical, and political realms will be raised. Marc Angélil is a professor at the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich. His research focuses on social and spatial development in extensive metropolitan areas around the world. He is the author of several books. He studied architecture at ETH Zurich, where he also obtained his doctorate. He has taught at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University and at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He practices architecture with his colleagues Sarah Graham and Manuel Scholl at the agps architecture studio, which has branches in Los Angeles and Zurich. Their projects include, for example, the terminal of Zurich Airport, the expansion of the headquarters of the International Union for Conservation of Nature in Geneva, the Children's Museum in Los Angeles, an infrastructure project for a cable car in Portland, Oregon, Zurich International School (ZIS), and urban modernization projects in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Raphael Zuber: 101 "The qualities of space cannot be precisely measured, yet there is some reason why we like or dislike things. What we experience through our senses, we verify with reason. What we intuitively believe, we clarify through abstraction. Our judgment is always based on personal conviction, but surely there are also archetypal spatial conditions that almost imperceptibly touch our basic instincts and influence our daily lives," says Raphael Zuber regarding the topic of his lecture. Raphael Zuber graduated in architecture from ETH Zurich in 2001 and founded his own office in the same year. His first building was a school and kindergarten in Grono. In 2016, he completed his second project, a residential building in Domat/Ems. Other significant projects include the Ethnographic Museum in Neuchâtel, the SUPSI university campus in Mendrisio, and a weekend house on the Isle of Harris in Scotland. Raphael Zuber has taught at several architectural schools and is currently a guest lecturer at ETH Zurich.
The lecture will be in English. Admission: 80 / 100 CZK
