On Tuesday, January 16, the first public discussion of the series Borders of Architecture will take place. The first evening will focus on the topic of Homeless People and Public Space.

The series of public discussions Borders of Architecture, organized by Architects Without Borders, addresses the intersection of architecture and everyday life.
The first discussion will take place on January 16, 2018, at 7:30 PM at the Scout Institute in the Old Town Square and is titled Homeless People and Public Space.
Social curator Pavel Pěnkava and architect and urban planner Jiří Klokočka have accepted the invitation. The discussion evening is open to both professionals and the general public. Everyone interested in the environment in which they live and wanting to engage in its cultivation is invited. There will be time for audience questions during the evening.

The discussion topics will be:
1) Society and its attitude towards homeless people
2) Social perspectives in academia
3) The influence of legislation on homeless people and public space


PhDr. Pavel Pěnkava
studied social pathology and prevention, and in a follow-up program, social pedagogy at the University of Hradec Králové. He works as a social curator and head of the social prevention department in Prague 1. He has worked at the counseling center for homeless individuals at the Prague Social Services Center. Since 2006, he has been the chairman of the section of social curators at the Czech Social Workers Association. He collaborates with both Czech and international organizations focused on homelessness issues. PhDr. Pavel Pěnkava teaches at the Department of Social Work at Charles University’s Faculty of Arts.

Ing. arch. Akad. arch. Jiří Klokočka studied architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague and the Academy of Art, Architecture and Design. Since 1980, he has lived and worked in Belgium, where he served as the chief architect of the urban planning studio for the city of Kortrijk. He is currently a member of urban planning commissions for several cities and municipalities in Belgium and collaborates externally with the city architect's office in Brno. Ing. arch. Akad. arch. Jiří Klokočka teaches at the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Liberec and at the Faculty of Architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague, where he leads his own studio at the Institute of Urbanism.

Architects Without Borders
is a non-profit organization bringing together architects and designers interested in public space. The organization's goal is to initiate and collaborate on projects for disadvantaged people, cultivate public space, and strengthen interpersonal relationships. Architects Without Borders is behind projects such as the Signage System in the underpasses under the Hlávka Bridge and the initiative Public Wardrobes in Prague.
