Zlín - Zlín city councilors today approved investments for the renovation of the city center. The so-called Gahura Prospect, which is the forecourt of the Cultural and University Center, Komenský Park, and the underpass to Náměstí Práce will be remodeled. The reconstruction of all areas will cost about 175 million crowns, with more than 112 million covered by European grants.
The repairs of Gahura Prospect will begin first, with work starting after the summer holidays, said City Hall spokesperson Zdeněk Dvořák today. The other two investments will start next spring.
The city has announced architectural competitions for individual parts of the center's renewal, choosing from 60 proposals. The winning and other designs could be seen last year at an exhibition in the Alternativa cultural center.
The previous city leadership formed by ODS, ČSSD, and KDU-ČSL approved that the architectural study would be prepared by AI-DESIGN of architect Jiřičná. Mayor Irena Ondrová (ODS) justified it at that time by stating that the entire space connects to the newly constructed Congress and University Center. Both buildings and the space between them come from Jiřičná's workshop. The current coalition in the city hall (TOP 09/STAN, the M.O.R. movement, KDU-ČSL, and ZHN) announced new competitions after their election, and Jiřičná did not apply for them anymore.
