Zlín - The long-prepared transformation of the center of Zlín begins. Workers will start the reconstruction of Gahur's Prospect on Monday - the area in front of the cultural and university center. The work will last a maximum of 120 days, with total costs reaching approximately 14 million crowns excluding VAT. However, the city hall will retroactively use European subsidies to finance a larger part of the costs, spokesman for the city council Zdeněk Dvořák informed ČTK today. "The Gahur's Prospect is not utilized nearly as much as it could be for public needs. And we want to change that. By autumn, it will be much more welcoming to people," promised Mayor Miroslav Adámek (TOP 09 and STAN). The most significant change in the appearance of Gahur's Prospect will be the creation of a system of sidewalks in its lower part, which will connect the Práce Square with the seat of the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic and the university rectorate. "They will be recessed below the level of the surroundings and illuminated every evening. They will become a suitable place for relaxation and rest, as it will be possible to sit on their edges," described Dvořák. In the entire area, a publicly accessible Wi-Fi network will be available. Permanent pedestrian crossings will also be installed in front of the Congress Center and the rectorate of Tomas Bata University. They will replace the current temporary crossing, added Deputy Mayor Jiří Kadeřábek (Zlínská volba). The reconstruction of Gahur's Prospect is one of three projects that will significantly change the appearance of the broader center of Zlín. The others are the reconstruction of the underpass connecting Práce Square with the former factory premises of the Baťa and Svit companies, and the revitalization of Komenský Park. The winning proposals, according to which all cases will be carried out, emerged from architectural competitions held by the city hall in 2011.
