THE STOLEN GALLERY is an experimental street art project.Outdoor exhibitions are regularly held every week in long-term abandoned city display cases. The project originated in Český Krumlov in May 2010. Since then, UKG has expanded to Prague, Banská Štiavnica, Dresden, Linz, Písek, Telč, and Děčín-Podmokly. Stolen galleries naturally emerge in the cultural peripheries of cities. Over five hundred exhibitions have already taken place in all "branches." One of UKG's goals is to create a gallery network through which artworks and artists could freely circulate between individual cities, countries, and continents. In the Prague gallery in Modřany, a monthly series on young Czech architecture is held. The intention of the series is to inform the public about contemporary architecture in this informal manner and to confront emerging architects with the work of their colleagues. The architecture series within UKG also offers the opportunity to showcase architecture in the environment of painters, sculptors, photographers, thus bringing it closer to other artistic fields from which it detached in the last century. The opportunity to compare approaches of individual studios allows regular visitors to form an opinion on contemporary young Czech architecture. The exhibition opening is accompanied by a lecture with a presentation, followed by a discussion. In the past year, Mjölk architects, MOLO ARCHITEKTI, H3T, Homostudio, Progres atelier, Collaborative Collective, Majo architects, Manua, Mio architects have exhibited here.
On Thursday, March 14, 2013, at 9 PM, the jubilee 10th installment of the series will take place, featuring the architectural workshop IUCH by Ida Čapounová and Jakub Chuchlík, and on April 11, 2013, a series on architecture will also begin in UKG Děčín-Podmokly. You are cordially invited to both events.
