Špindlerův Mlýn - Construction work on the new Petrov chalet in the Krkonoš Mountains will fully resume next spring. This year, a rough construction of two buildings has risen on the ridge, and builders have decided to abandon the construction of a third above-ground floor, which will continue next year, contrary to the original plans for this year. Martin Havlík from Snowy Chalet, the company building the Petrov chalet, told ČTK.
The main building has its load-bearing structures completed, and the entire building is covered with a temporary roof. "The construction of the third above-ground floor was abandoned both due to the onset of winter weather and due to the interconnection of floor structures with technologies planned for implementation in 2017," said Havlík.
The adjacent building has been completed as a rough construction with a temporary roofing. Windows and doors will be installed in the spring of 2017, and wooden boards currently cover the openings. For the wastewater treatment facility, builders have only done preparatory work, and the actual construction is planned for 2017.
Due to the climatic conditions on the Krkonoš ridges, where, according to mountain service reports, there is currently less than 20 centimeters of snow, the builders have dismantled the construction site fencing. "Due to the action of wind and snow, even with the best possible security, it would have been damaged. Fencing buried under snow would threaten skiers and other visitors to the area," said Havlík. The company therefore asks tourists to respect the posted warning signs and not to enter the construction site or attempt to break into the unfinished buildings.
The new Petrov chalet is intended to replace the original building that burned down five years ago. The completion of the construction is planned for the end of 2019, with estimated costs amounting to 120 million crowns. The new "Petrovka" should have 62 beds. In the larger four-story building, which connects with the base cuboid mass of three above-ground floors to the structure from 1887, there should be 52 beds, of which 12 in a dormitory and 40 in the accommodation part. In the smaller single-story object B with an attic, ten beds are planned in its accommodation part. Part of object B will also serve as a gathering point for tourists, and it will include a shelter with continuous operation.
The original Petrov chalet consisted of a trio of buildings. Since 2008, the deteriorating chalet was closed to tourists, and according to some experts, there was a risk of collapse due to its poor technical condition. On August 1, 2011, a major fire destroyed the building, leaving only the underground floors, parts of the outer walls, and the transformer station. According to firefighters, the fire was intentionally set, but police did not identify the perpetrator, and the case was closed.
