Špindlerův Mlýn (Trutnov region) - Heritage conservationists, after several negative positions, have approved the design of the new Petrová bouda on the ridges of the Krkonoš. The hut burned down three years ago, and its owner, the company Snowy Chalet, wants to restore it in a smaller size than it was before the fire. It should consist of two smaller buildings instead of three. The conservationists had previously insisted on building a faithful replica of the heritage-protected hut in its form before the fire. This was reported by today's Mladá fronta Dnes in the supplement for the Hradec Králové region. "The heritage council advised us to respect the submitted project. They recommended that we stay grounded and not be complete maximalists in our demands. We must also consider the conditions and circumstances under which the building is to be restored," said Jiří Balský, the director of the National Heritage Institute in Josefov. He assured that he would respect the council's recommendation. The heritage council, composed of architects, builders, urban planning specialists, archaeologists, and art historians, also advised Balský to have the owner make several minor adjustments to the project. These should ensure at least a minimal restoration of some typical features of the hut. For example, the building's veranda should be enlarged. The owners want to follow the appearance of Petrová bouda from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. At that time, it was much smaller than before the fire when it consisted of three buildings connected by corridors and hallways. However, according to the owners, such a form is economically unfeasible, so the project only accounts for two smaller buildings that could partly operate self-service. The construction costs are estimated at 100 million crowns. The company only lacks the approval of the heritage conservationists for the preparation of the actual construction. "We have already received positive opinions from all relevant authorities, including Krnap, regarding the submitted documentation for the building permit," stated Martin Havlík, the managing director of Snowy Chalet. If the company subsequently manages to obtain the zoning decision and building permit, construction could begin next year. The new Petrovka should offer accommodation for approximately 50 people in a shared dormitory as well as in separate rooms, dining in an outdoor and indoor buffet, and wellness facilities with a whirlpool, steam bath, and saunas. Its self-service aspect lies in the fact that interested parties can first collect keys at the Špindlerův Mlýn information center and then spend the night at Petrovka in a sleeping bag with a disposable liner, without needing staff for this.
