Prague - Prague 10 has announced a tender for the construction of a town hall costing 775 million crowns. The winner of the tender must not only build the new headquarters of the municipal district but also secure the land and necessary documentation. ČTK learned this from the list of public contracts. The opposition and some civic associations are protesting the construction, seeking to stop the project through a referendum. Prague 10 wants to build a new building due to the poor condition of the current headquarters, known as Vlasty. However, the opposition does not agree with the plan, claiming it is overpriced. According to them, it would be cheaper to renovate the existing office building. The town hall leadership disagrees and labels the criticism as an electoral battle. The construction of the new town hall could reportedly start this December according to the assumptions set out in the announced tender. A condition for the selection of suitable plots is that they must be within the territory of Prague 10 and must be easily accessible by both car and public transport. A strong candidate is a plot in Hagibor, which was offered to the municipal district some time ago. Companies can submit bids until the end of September. The announcement of the tender was approved by the municipal district council. Preliminary information about the tender was published by the municipal district as early as the beginning of April. TOP 09, the electoral coalition Vlasta, and civic initiatives want to stop the construction. They are therefore collecting signatures necessary to call a referendum. By the end of June, they had gathered three-quarters of the 8,400 required signatures. According to them, the referendum should ideally be scheduled for the dates of the municipal elections on October 10 and 11. At another time, there is a risk that insufficient numbers of people would participate, rendering it invalid.
