Prague - Prague 10 has definitively abandoned the construction of a new town hall building, in which the previous leadership of the city district wanted to invest 775 million crowns. The city district will prepare new options by autumn, as decided by the councilors today. The controversial construction had previously sparked intense reactions in Vršovice. People demonstrated and wrote petitions. There was even a referendum on the project last year. However, not enough people participated for it to be binding for the councilors.

"The current leadership of the town hall has tidied up its desk with this resolution and is returning the entire matter to square one," said former mayor and now councilor Bohumil Zoufalík in response to a question from ČTK. As a councilor for spatial development, he said he would prepare options for the autumn session on how the city district could proceed, whether by building a new headquarters or perhaps renovating the existing one.
Prague 10 wanted to build a new building due to the poor condition of the building it currently occupies. The winner of the tender was to secure the land, the construction itself, the study of the new headquarters, as well as technical supervision and project documentation. A hot candidate was a plot at Hagibor. Civic associations and the opposition, however, condemned the project as overpriced.
