Prague - Prague 10 is exploring a variant for a new town hall in the former Old School near the Strašnická metro station and the renovation of the current Vlasta office building. On Monday, representatives took note of the analysis for a future solution. The criticized variant of constructing a new town hall for nearly a billion crowns has already been abandoned by the district leadership, as citizens protested against it and a referendum was announced. In the autumn, the council plans to discuss solution variants with the public.

"By the end of this year or the beginning of next year, we will have enough information for the representatives to decide on the future form of the town hall," said former mayor and representative Bohumil Zoufalík (Independents for Prague 10).
A seven-member expert working group composed of officials is dealing with two possible variants for the town hall in the former school. One of them involves incorporating the Art Nouveau monument and constructing an additional building, while the other proposes building a completely new structure east of the existing building. The heritage experts consulted also agree with utilizing the monument, but insist on a sensitive reconstruction.
"The area identified for the new town hall has the potential to create a local center due to its location by the metro station and its connection to Starostrašnická Street," states the document presented to the representatives.
The working group outlines three options for the renovation of the Vlasta building, which dates back to the 1970s - renovation, the addition of a new section, and the use of the neighboring unused cultural house Eden. The renovation assumes that only the load-bearing reinforced concrete structure would remain in the building. There will also need to be a solution for connecting the town hall with the street.
Both variants for the new town hall should, according to the analyses, have an entrance hall with public services at ground level, such as state administration counters, a filing office, as well as supplementary services like an information center, an ATM, and similar. "When we build at Strašnická, we need to know what will happen to the office building. And vice versa," said representative Pavel Mareš (KDU-ČSL/Vlasta coalition) during the discussion.
Prague 10 wanted to build a new building due to the poor condition of the office’s headquarters. The winner of the tender was supposed to secure the land, the actual construction, the study for the new headquarters, as well as technical supervision and project documentation for an estimated price of 775 million crowns. A hot candidate was a plot in Hagibor. However, civic associations and the opposition condemned the project as overpriced.
