Prague - The opposition party TOP 09 considers the plan to renovate the Prague 10 town hall to be significantly overpriced. According to a study by the office, the renovation of the current building should cost 888 million Czech crowns. The opposition's assessment indicates a price 50 percent lower, said councilor Radek Lojda (TOP 09) in a press release to ČTK. The opposition is also dissatisfied with the proposals for purchasing a new building or constructing a new facility. A protest event will take place in front of the town hall this afternoon due to the plan. ČTK is seeking a statement from the leadership of Prague 10.
According to the leadership of Prague 10, the current Vlasta building is in poor technical condition. Therefore, the town hall is considering either renovating the current headquarters, building a new facility on the municipality's land near the Strašnická metro station, or issuing a public tender for the purchase of an existing building or land suitable for the functioning of the town hall.
The advisory committee is expected to choose one of the options today. The final decision will rest with the municipal council, which is set to meet on February 10.
TOP 09 criticizes all three options. "As a member of the working committee that is to meet this afternoon, I will vote against all the options presented by the town hall management. In my opinion, they are not well-prepared, and the project will cost taxpayers unnecessary hundreds of millions of crowns,” stated Pavlina Hájková (TOP 09).
The study on the reconstruction of the current building, commissioned by the leadership of the municipality, indicates, according to Lojda, a renovation cost of 888 million. The construction of a new town hall at the Strašnická metro station would supposedly cost 1.23 billion, and the option of purchasing land and subsequently constructing a new building at Hagibor would amount to 934 million.
