Prague - The tenth city district will announce an architectural competition for a new town hall building near the Strašnická metro station. At the same time, it will assess how much the repair of the current headquarters would cost. By the end of the year, it wants to have a comparison of costs for both options and choose the more advantageous one. The mayor of Prague 10, Milan Richter (ODS), said this to journalists today. The competition will be announced in cooperation with the Czech Chamber of Architects. The town hall will allocate 300,000 crowns for the awards for the top three places. The current town hall of Prague 10 on Vršovická Street was built in the 1970s. "The condition of the current headquarters reflects the time it was approved," said the deputy mayor Bohumil Zoufalík (ODS), who has been tasked with comparing both options. According to Zoufalík, the reinforced concrete structure of the building has been compromised by road salt from winter maintenance. According to Richter, the new town hall should have a more advantageous location near the metro station. The land on which it could be built belongs to the city district. Therefore, the town hall would not have to invest in land acquisition. Other city districts also want to change their town hall. For example, Prague 7 is considering building a new building, as its current lease ends in 2015. It wants to have a clear decision on a new headquarters by the end of the year. The considered options will cost the seventh city district hundreds of millions of crowns.
