Pardubice - The Pardubice City Hall is searching for the optimal way to clean the pavement on the newly reconstructed Míru Street. This was stated today by Deputy Mayor Helena Dvořáčková to ČTK. The light granite cubestones on the main shopping street have become dirty after a short period of use, with many spots marred by stains from drinks, food, or urine.

Experts have tried three cleaning methods, none of which have yielded a hundred percent results. The city is also looking into whether the treatment of the stone was overlooked in the project. A portion of the area was cleaned by a professional company using sandblasting, which is a dusty and noisy method. Workers cover the site with a tent during work, but according to the deputy mayor, this doesn't help much.
"Then a chemical cleaning method was tried. The stains are lighter, but they remain. After that, steam was used. It is the cheapest method, but it practically has no result," said Dvořáčková.
The city has consulted the possibility of cleaning the pavement chemically or by sandblasting and then applying a penetrating treatment to prevent grease and other dirt from sticking too much. However, the contract would cost the city three to four million crowns.
"Sandblasting seems to be the most effective, but I can't imagine how to do a large area with this dusty and noisy method," said Dvořáčková.
Experts are also investigating what effect the penetration treatment would have on the roughness of the pavement. The deputy mayor is concerned that during the first frost, a smooth surface might form, and Míru Street could suddenly turn into a slippery pond.
The renovated Míru Street was taken over by the city in April, with repairs lasting 13 months. The project was planned for four electoral terms. The work cost approximately 120 million crowns and was partially funded by European grants. The shopping street is partly a pedestrian zone. Trolleybus transport has returned to the city center only at a tenth of the original routes, with 60 routes now passing through the street daily.
