Pardubice - The reconstruction of Míru Street and Sladkovský Street in Pardubice has been slowed down by archaeological research. The city will pay 1.6 million crowns for it. The construction company, however, should meet the deadline for completion by the end of February next year. The city's leadership informed CTK in a press release. In Sladkovského Street, archaeologists found remnants of the city from the 16th and 17th centuries. After the surveys are completed, the research will move to Míru Street, where experts expect further findings. According to an informative report received by the councilors last week, the construction is delayed by about a month. "It is true that the construction is slightly delayed, but the deadline for its completion still holds. The company Syner has added equipment and personnel to the construction, the replacement of sewage connections to the houses on Míru Street is almost completed, so there is nothing preventing the contractor from catching up on the delay," said Deputy Mayor Jindřich Tauber (ČSSD). Workers are repairing Míru Street along its entire length from Republic Square to Masaryk Square and are also reconstructing the northern part of Sladkovský Street. After completion, the shopping street will be partially pedestrianized. The costs of the repairs are expected to reach approximately 120 million crowns. The engineering networks, including sewage, water supply, and public lighting, road surfaces will be completely repaired, and furniture, greenery, and a fountain will be added. The city hall rebutted the opposition's criticism that it did not inform homeowners about the reconstruction of the water connections in a timely manner. The company Vodovody a kanalizace (VaK) checked their condition last November and informed the property owners, according to the magistrate. Dozens of owners, however, rejected the repair or wanted to hire another construction company. Therefore, the city approved that it would pay half of the repair costs to the owners, which will amount to six to seven million crowns. The city did not want the delays to jeopardize the European project. Negotiations between VaK and the homeowners were lengthy and complicated; however, in cooperation with the city's technicians, it was possible to bring it to completion and replace the connections on Míru Street, stated Mayor Štěpánka Fraňková (Association for Pardubice). According to her, the ball is now in the court of the company carrying out the reconstruction.
