Špindlerův Mlýn – As soon as the epidemic situation allows, the renovated mountain complex of Petrovy Boudy should open. The main building of the complex was recently constructed on the foundations of the original building that burned down at an altitude of 1288 meters above sea level in one of the most extreme locations of the Krkonoš Mountains. Throughout the year, its windows offer a magnificent view of the eastern part of the mountains. When the wind blows in the Krkonoš, it really blows on the slopes of Dívčí kameny, said CTK owner of "Petrovy Boudy" and software group Unicorn Vladimír Kovář.
Their extensive renovation was completed with occupancy permits in February this year, and it has been speculated how the mountain complex will operate. According to Kovář, it will open as soon as the epidemic situation permits. Partially, "Petrovy Boudy" will serve the corporate recreation of the Unicorn company, but it will also be accessible to the public, including accommodation. The owner plans to expand the complex with one more building.
"When it blows, the building works, it's like being on a ship, the cups rattle. Petrovy Boudy are designed excellently for extreme conditions; it has proven itself. It has a wooden structure and includes special elements like steel auxiliary trusses that reinforce the building," Kovář told CTK.
The complex currently consists of two separate buildings, the main A, smaller B, and a third building - a wastewater treatment plant. Construction began in May 2016 and cost approximately 180 million crowns including equipment. "Petrovy Boudy has a genius loci; in my opinion, there is no more beautiful place in the Czech Republic," Kovář told CTK, who has his own apartment in the main building.
Although measures against the spread of COVID-19 did not allow Petrovy Boudy to open to the public, they began providing shelter for tourists during bad weather at the so-called hut in the smaller building B. It is a heated day room with tables, chairs, and a restroom with the possibility of consuming one's own refreshments.
In the main building A, there is a restaurant, apartments, a tourist dormitory for 12 people, and in the basement wellness, technical background, technology, or storage. In the smaller separate building B, called Ovčárna, a separate accommodation unit for 12 people was created. Accommodation in six apartments in building A is for 36 people. The capacity of the mountain complex of Petrovy Boudy is around 60 people.
In building A, accommodation in the so-called dormitory will be available to the public with prior reservation, and on selected weekends in the apartments. On weekdays, the apartments will generally be used by employees of the Unicorn company, which employs about 2500 people. The restaurant will primarily serve guests, and in the future, it should also offer gastronomic packages for people from outside. In building B, accommodation will be possible with prior booking in the apartment unit. Thus, the main building A will mostly be used for corporate stays, recreation, and training of Unicorn company employees and students from Unicorn University.
"The dormitory will be available with prior reservation through our ordering system. The customer will receive a QR code for entry. The price for a bed in one's sleeping bag with breakfast will be 450 crowns," Kovář told CTK. Entry to the dormitory will be possible daily after 16:00 and departure at the latest by 10:00 the following day.
Accommodation in the apartment unit in building B will be for closed groups, about 20,000 crowns for the weekend, 29,000 crowns for the remaining days, and 49,000 crowns for a week. "It is a comfortable accommodation for 12 people, with four bathrooms, a sauna, and of course a fully equipped kitchen," Kovář stated.
The investor and owner of the mountain complex of Petrovy Boudy is Kovář's company Snowy Chalet. According to him, the current state is the first phase of the restoration of "Petrovy Boudy". The planned building should be constructed behind the main building, where a building previously stood, and it should be connected to buildings A and B. It should be a volumetric copy of building A but without a basement. "This way, Petrovy Boudy would take on approximately the same appearance as they had before they burned down," he said.
In the ground floor, a buffet including toilets for passersby is planned, a hunting lounge, a hall for about 40 people on the first floor, and above that, hotel-type accommodation for about 20 persons and accommodation for the staff. The project is prepared, and estimated costs are under 100 million crowns. "Once we obtain all the permits, we can start construction. But it won't be easy; we are in the Krkonoš National Park," Kovář added.
