Pardubice - Following the renovation of třída Míru, trolleybuses will operate in both directions, but only in one lane. Pardubice is now seeking solutions in collaboration with the transportation company on how the trolleybuses will bypass each other. The renovation of třída Míru, which was approved by the Pardubice city council on Tuesday, is set to begin no earlier than next spring. This was stated by Deputy Mayor Jiří Rozinek (ČSSD).

"Public transport on třída Míru will be significantly limited. Therefore, it is not necessary to construct any passing bays on this single-lane road. The frequency of trolleybuses should be such that they shouldn't have to wait for each other. The transportation company in Pardubice will prepare a precise schedule. Trolleybuses will also be managed using GPS," Rozinek said.
Ideally, the renovation of třída Míru, costing 150 million crowns, should start next spring. According to preliminary plans, two to three trolleybus lines should operate on the renovated street, which will be significantly fewer than currently. After the street is renovated, a portion of the trolleybuses and buses will begin to operate on Sukova třída, while traffic on Sladkovského street should not increase.
The transportation company in Pardubice will now begin to prepare documentation outlining how trolleybuses and buses will operate in the center of Pardubice after the reconstruction.
After the renovation of třída Míru, the system for supplying and passing through the street, which currently sometimes resembles a parking lot, will also be changed. This is despite the fact that passage is only permitted with special permits, which are valid for one day. The city issues about 7,000 of these permits annually.
City representatives are now facing a series of meetings with merchants, residents of the street, city police officers, and the management of the transportation company to reach an agreement on details concerning parking, access to homes, deliveries, and the frequency of trolleybus connections.
The planned renovation of třída Míru is very problematic. The city council voted on it as early as 2006, approving its renovation and transformation into a pedestrian zone, which was confirmed several times afterwards, most recently in December of last year. However, the opposition ODS challenged the decision and managed to gather enough signatures to return it to the council.
The chairman of the ODS council club, Petr Klimpl, proposed that třída Míru be renovated but remain open to two-way traffic for both trolleybuses and cyclists. Additionally, there should be greater regulation of deliveries to the shops on the street. The maximum investment should be 150 million crowns, including the repair of Sladkovského street. His proposal was approved by the councilors.
