Jeseník – Today, students from the second grade of the local elementary school in Jeseník took their seats in the modular school, which replaced the building damaged in the September floods. It was created from 43 containers on Nábřežní Street. According to the school principal, Dominik Liberdy, it is expected to be used for about 1.5 to two years, until the original building can be reconstructed. He estimated the repair costs at 30 to 50 million crowns. The nearby elementary school in Česká Ves also opened a modular facility, which is used by older students there as well.
The Jeseník school built from containers has created space for six classrooms, a school club, and facilities for school catering, as well as offices for school management and administrative staff. "I think the magic of the new is working, the children were excited, and at the same time, we could involve them in the preparations. The eighth and ninth graders helped us with the moving," said the school principal.
The September floods affected the school building on Nábřežní Street, which is located near the Bělá River. According to the principal, the opening of the new facilities is a great relief for the school. "Until now, it was a crisis mode, everyone can tolerate it if there is a visible end, which in our case was the modular school. Now we can fully implement the educational program, including, for example, divided classes, which was not possible under the previous conditions. The teachers were already tired of moving students around the city, and we are pleased that it can function this way now," he stated.
The mayor of Jeseník, Zdeňka Blišťanová (Jeseník with Heart), also appreciated that a modular school was established in the town. According to her, there were also opinions that teaching could manage even without it, at various locations in Jeseník. "In my opinion, it would be a shame; the quality of education would not be good. This way, the school received sufficient space," the mayor told ČTK.
The damaged building is now awaiting repairs. "We will aim to carry this out as much as possible during the holiday period. We will already assign the project and will wait for the announcement of the conditions," the mayor added. According to the school principal, the reconstruction will be quite complicated. "It involves complete project documentation that must be processed, and a standard selection process must take place. Additionally, asbestos must be removed from part of the building; we are concerned that we may not be able to complete it by the holidays, although an architectural study is already being processed," Liberda added.
The modular school has also been utilized for the second week by first-grade students from Česká Ves, located four kilometers away. The building constructed from 62 containers, which includes 14 classrooms, serves around 200 children. The original school building in Česká Ves is also awaiting reconstruction. Costs are estimated to reach up to 60 million crowns.
