Prague - The Prague Nusle Bridge is set to undergo a colorful transformation. The concrete structure, which spans 485 meters and connects Karlov with Pankrác, will become a canvas for twelve Czech and international street art artists. During September, the artists plan to repaint eight bridge pillars and create a unique "bridge gallery". The first works will begin on Friday, Klára Voskovcová from the organization Taktum, which is organizing the event titled Nuselák aka Graffiti bridge, informed ČTK. The unique bridge, which was built in the late 1970s, will host street artists known by the pseudonyms Tron, Pasta Oner, Point, Obic&Geno, Xdog, Horfe, and Zedz, who will paint the pillars. The beams of the bridge will be the focus for artists Erab, Derk, Gyzmo, and Zeb One. A common theme for all the authors will be the "dual principle" defined by the nature of the bridge - the pillars are always in pairs. "Similarly, the bridge continues to symbolize the highest of the opposites in the human world - the duality of life and death," claim the organizers about the structure, which is sometimes infamously referred to as the "bridge of suicides". The artists will create their works on special platforms and scaffolding. Painting will begin on Friday at the pillar closer to Pankrác, with about five days allocated for each side of a pillar's painting. "At this moment, it is impossible to predict the exact date of completion; exact timelines for moving from pillar to pillar cannot be guaranteed either, as everything depends on the weather and the artists' abilities," Voskovcová stated. The organizers expect that the opening ceremony could take place on October 3. Following the Nuselák aka Graffiti bridge event at the beginning of October, there will be an international exhibition of graffiti and street art titled Městem posedlí (City Obsessed) at the Prague City Library. In addition to the authors from Nuselák, artists from Germany, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, and the USA will also participate.
