Chomutov - The modification of the entrance to Kamencové Lake from Přemyslová Street in Chomutov according to the proposal will allow visitors an easier way to access the lake, but the people living nearby do not like it. According to them, it will be difficult to get home due to the newly one-way streets Přísečnická and Přemyslova near the lake.

"We are bothered by the one-way street in Přísečnická," protested one resident of this street at today's public presentation of the proposal. According to him, it is a unnecessary detour. The route is almost a kilometer long. Deputy Mayor David Dinda (New North) stated that part of Přísečnická Street could be two-way. "If the traffic department allows us," the deputy added.

Originally, the overall renovation of the lake area, which is owned by the city, was supposed to be completed in 2021. However, the start of the construction work costing 100 million crowns will be postponed to spring 2021. An circular path is planned to run around the lake. The avenue at the entrance to the lake needs to be revitalized, landscape architect Lucie Radilová said today. Some trees are already in very poor condition, as her words indicated. According to her, there is no other option but to fell them and plant new ones in their place.

The avenue consists of red oaks. "The usual lifespan of that tree is between 80 and 120 years," said Pavel Vágner, the author of the revitalization project. However, the trees are not originally from the Czech Republic, thus they do not live as long as they do in their native North America. Moreover, according to him, the trees are planted too close to each other.

The plans of the authors also include an information center and restrooms at the entrance. However, the construction of the wooden-clad building will only happen in later phases of the renovation of the lake area.

Kamencové Lake is a rarity, likely the only other body of water with the same composition in Canada has already disappeared. It was probably created by flooding a former alum quarry; the water has a beneficial effect on the skin. It is acidic, so there are no fish, other animals, or plants in it.
