Chomutov - Chomutov will attempt to buy the buildings in the Kamencové Lake recreational area from the former tenant of the area, CV Relax company and the Association for Sports and Health, for about 26 million crowns. The purchase price was approved today by the city council, based on expert reports. Two years ago, the city terminated the sublease agreement with CV Relax. The buildings that the company enhanced the area with are located on city-owned land.
The purchase of the properties in the Kamencové Lake area has been a long-term concern for the Chomutov city hall. It commissioned several expert assessments. The first one, which set the amount at 32 million, had errors. Most recently, in March of this year, the council proposed to purchase a set of several dozen properties for 18 million crowns. However, CV Relax rejected this amount. The city hall is in a hurry to purchase because the summer season in the area starts in about two weeks.
Initially, the city leadership proposed to today’s council meeting that the city should only buy the marina from the association and the toilets and sewage system in the Kamencové Lake area. After a consultation of the council clubs behind closed doors, the leadership ultimately changed the proposal to purchase all properties for 26 million.
The opposition objected to this. "After a long consultation of the clubs, you come up with a proposal to buy out all the assets of CV Relax and the Association for Sports and Health for the highest valuation, offering roughly eight million more. You are offering a straight 30 percent premium to CV Relax. This seems bold to me considering the cash flow situation of the city," stated councilor Marian Bystroň (PRO Chomutov). The opposition’s counter-proposal to set the purchase price at around 20 million crowns was unsuccessful. A total of 20 councilors then voted for the purchase at 26 million crowns.
After the termination of the contract two years ago, the city, to secure the season, purchased the interior equipment of the cottages, telecommunications lines, optical network, and hotel cash system. In total, it spent about eight million crowns. The city hall immediately began major repairs and investments, having already invested about 60 million crowns in the area, with the new central pier being the most costly.
According to Deputy Mayor David Dynda (Nový Sever), the acquisition of the facilities is necessary for further development of the area. The city has announced an architectural competition for its development.
CV Relax had leased the area since 2008, with the then city management signing a 50-year contract with them. However, in 2016 the city hall terminated the contract. According to the then Mayor Daniel Černý (PRO Chomutov), the contract was disadvantageous for the city.
The Kamencové Lake is now operated by the Chomutov zoo park. It is widely used by locals and people from the surrounding area. The high content of alum in the water prevents the growth of algae and cyanobacteria, so even on tropical days, it mostly remains clear.
