Chomutov - Chomutov will announce an architectural competition for the development of the stone lake. The city will choose the most suitable solution for the background of this popular recreational area from the proposals. This was stated by the city hall spokesman Tomáš Branda.

"Through the competition, we would like to obtain new proposals for solutions to the entrances and access to the area, which should reflect the current needs, for example, after the demolition of the hotel on Přemyslova Street or the inappropriate access to the campsite through the residential zone," said the mayor's deputy David Dinda.

The empty hotel, which is in a state of disrepair and last served as accommodation, will be demolished by the city in the autumn after this year's lake season ends. Chomutov received a state grant for the demolition.

According to the councilors, the architectural competition is a good way to obtain a larger number of specific architectural and urban planning proposals that address the assignment from many perspectives. "From the proposals, the city can choose the most suitable one, backed by an independent expert jury of architects," said Hana Nováková, head of the development and investment department.

The last city to organize an architectural competition was Litvínov, while no such competition has been held in Most or Ústí nad Labem recently, despite calls from experts and the public.

In Chomutov, the competition will be two-stage. In the first round, the conceptual idea will be addressed, and in the second round, architectural proposals will be considered. The city hall will announce the competition by the end of August, with first-round proposals due by mid-November. The city would like to implement the first elements based on the winning proposals in 2019.
