Břeclav - The façade of the train station building in Břeclav will undergo reconstruction. After the renovation, it will look the same as it did at the end of the 19th century. There will be more projects to commemorate the history of the railway in Břeclav, including a smaller railway museum. This was reported today by the spokesperson of the Břeclav town hall, Eliška Windová.

The design of the station building is being developed in collaboration with Czech Railways (ČD), which will carry out the reconstruction. The town will contribute studies and a design for the façade by Karel Božek. "We have agreed with ČD that as part of the last phase of the reconstruction of the dispatch building, they will adjust the appearance of the façade of the central part to its original architectural form from the 19th century," said Deputy Mayor Luboš Krátký.
ČD is expected to start the reconstruction of the building this autumn, and it should be completed at the same time as the construction of the transport integration terminal right next to the station. This summer, a second stage of the railway junction reconstruction will also begin in Břeclav. Workers will reconstruct over six kilometers of railway track, 67 switches with electric heating, and replace 22 kilometers of traction wiring. The estimated cost before the public tender is around one billion crowns.
The town hall wants to introduce more projects in the city that would commemorate the history of the railway. According to Deputy Mayor Krátký, Břeclav is the first station in the Czech lands where a train arrived. "For example, we would like to bring a smaller railway museum to the city, a miniature train, and we are also negotiating the possibility of installing a model of the Moravia locomotive, which brought the aforementioned first train," Krátký said.
As part of the reconstruction of the Břeclav railway junction, the train station was already renovated in 2008. The repairs, which included platforms and underpasses, took about three quarters of a year and cost approximately 300 million crowns. Now it is time for the renovation of the building.
