Židlochovice (Brno region) - The Administration of Railways and Transport Routes (SŽDC) will today ceremoniously kick off the reconstruction of the railway junction in Břeclav at the castle in Židlochovice in the Brno region. The station itself will undergo the most significant changes - pedestrian underpasses will be modernized and equipped with elevators, the number of platform edges will increase from the current eight to 12, thereby increasing the capacity of connections. The replacement of worn tracks and outdated switches will enable faster train passage. The reconstruction will be completed in 2010 and will cost 2.7 billion crowns.
According to the chief engineer of the project, Radoslav Molák from the design company Sudop Brno, all modifications should primarily enhance passenger comfort. The increased capacity of the station will allow passengers transferring to another connection not to have to change platforms. Concurrently with the reconstruction of the tracks, there will also be a reconstruction of the Czech Railways, which owns the dispatch building of the station. In the main hall, for example, an information panel of the Integrated Transport System of the South Moravian Region will be added.
Greater comfort also awaits passengers traveling on the train. The replacement of 21.7 kilometers of tracks and 40 kilometers of power lines will enable an increase in train speeds in the approaches from the current 80 to 130 kilometers per hour. Additionally, safety and heating systems at the switches will be modernized, and new noise barriers will separate the tracks from buildings in populated areas of the city.
