The Magistrate's Department is set to begin working on the completion of the Prague Ring Road

Prague - The Department of Strategic Investments (OSI) of the Prague City Hall will be tasked with starting work on the completion of the city ring road between Pelc-Tyrolka and the Štěrboholská radial. The assignment for the department is expected to be approved by the Prague councilors at their meeting on May 23. Petr Dolínek (ČSSD), deputy to the mayor, said this today to ČTK. The inner ring road in Prague is completed in the section from the Štěrboholská radial through the Barrandov Bridge to the exit of the Blanka tunnel at Pelc-Tyrolka.

"Yes, we will assign this task to the OSI. The city hall has already submitted a request for a change to the zoning plan for this construction," said Dolínek.

If the city actually issued an order to continue the preparation of the ring road construction, drivers from the Blanka tunnel would proceed through a new tunnel under Povltavská Street. Out of a total length of about ten kilometers, five kilometers would be through the tunnel. It would be either two or one level, depending on the recommendations of experts, according to Dolínek. The ring would further lead through Malešice to the section of the ring in Štěrboholi. "As stated, the OSI will tender projects for the specific shape and execution of the ring, which will be consulted with the affected city districts," said Dolínek.

A decision has not yet been made about the future of the busy street V Holešovičkách. Prague 8 has already stated that it wishes to have it buried. According to information from ČTK, there is also a variant for an underground radial from Pelc-Tyrolka to Březiněves. "It is one of the possibilities," confirmed Dolínek.

The city or inner ring is being constructed by the capital from its budget. Currently, a section from Pelc-Tyrolka through the Blanka tunnel towards Prague 6 and 5 and Strahov tunnel and Mrázovka to the Barrandov Bridge and the South Connection is in operation. At present, it ends in the east of the city with the Štěrboholská radial.
