Praha will want to deepen the Prague Ring Road or build tunnels

Prague - The Prague City Hall will prefer that the road is dug down or that there are tunnels in several sections during the construction of the Prague Ring Road between Březiněves and Satalice. This follows from a document that will be discussed by the Prague city councilors on Monday. If the councilors approve the material, they will send their opinion to the Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD), which is preparing the construction of the ring road. According to existing plans, the Prague Ring Road is to measure over 80 kilometers, with about half currently in operation.

The original route proposal for the section designated 520 from 2009 assumed that the road would run on the surface. Based on discussions with the municipalities and the city, in addition to the original proposal, two other variants have been developed. All have the same route, but the new two differ from the original one precisely by being dug down or by the construction of tunnels.

The dug-down variant means that everywhere possible, the road has been dug down, on average up to eight meters. The so-called elevation of the Třeboradice viaduct has been reduced by as much as 17 meters. The third variant, in addition to the digging down, proposes the construction of three tunnels: Vinoř, which will be 1.3 kilometers long, Veleň, which would be 450 meters, and Třeboradice, which has a length of two kilometers. It is unclear which variant will ultimately be selected.

The outer Prague Ring Road is expected to measure about 83 kilometers upon completion, according to current plans, with approximately half currently in operation. The missing section runs from the Brno motorway D1 to Běchovice and also the entire northern part from Ruzyně through Suchdol, Březiněves to Černý Most. The radial roads have not been completed either, which are the roads that should connect it to the inner city ring road being built by Prague. The construction of the Prague Ring Road has long faced opposition from municipalities in the northern part of the capital.
