The long-awaited competition of semester student projects brought an extraordinary atmosphere to the Faculty of Architecture in Brno. A five-member jury met on February 9, 2012, at 1 PM at the Faculty of Architecture. The laureates from the previous round of the competition, students Martin Holý and Pavel Steuer, alongside practicing architects - Aleš Burian and Ladislav Lábuse, under the leadership of the commission chairman Martin Rajniš, kicked off a several-hour marathon through the studios. They managed to select forty projects for advancement to the next round from more than five hundred submissions. From this number, 10 finalists emerged, who were set to be announced during the ceremonial evening in the faculty auditorium.
This social gathering of students and professors was initiated by the dean, Josef Chybík, with his speech at 6 PM. The jury chair Martin Rajniš also spoke, and subsequently, other committee members expressed their evaluations of the assessed works. However, the audience in the auditorium was already impatiently awaiting the verdict.
Of the ten finalists, three winning projects were selected without ranking, which not only earned the audience's applause and prizes, but primarily a tangible form of the award. This honor was granted to the project of the City Library in Přerov by Miroslav Malý. The jury was also impressed by the work of František Dlabáč titled "Stories of the Place" - Hadrian Villa Foundation. The third winning project was the design of a chapel for the memorial site of Ležáky by Petr Hudec. The remaining seven works received the title "Awarded Project" and a material reward.
The closing remarks were made by members of the leadership of the Student Organization of the Faculty of Architecture. The first notes of the musical performance by the band NEBEZTEBE subsequently kicked off the informal entertainment, accompanied by a discussion of the projects and a tasting of creations from the compositionally successful catering.
The entire event took place on the initiative of the civic association of the Student Community of the Faculty of Architecture, supported by the faculty itself and a number of sponsors, to whom we express our gratitude!
