The chapel is constructed from granite blocks, which are drilled through and literally pierced with wooden poles. The poles are composed of varying lengths, creating an organic space in the midst of a perfectly rectangular block. The cornerstone of the chapel is the interior space, meant to impact the visitor and evoke humility towards the place where it is located. A person entering the chapel has a clearly defined space and pathway marked by the wooden poles along which they can move. The light and image penetrating into the interior space is divided into strips, similar to how light penetrates through smoke. The wood and stone underscore the relationship to the place and history.
