The competition of semester student projects once again brought a festive atmosphere to the Faculty of Architecture in Brno. A six-member jury gathered in the morning at the Faculty of Architecture to kick off a full-day marathon evaluating studio works.
The laureates of the last round of the competition, students Kryštof Foltýn, Veronika Tvrdá, and Bc. Veronika Ehlová, participated in selecting the winners alongside experts from practice M.A. Svatopluk Sládeček, doc. Ing.arch. Jakub Cigler, and Mgr. Šárka Svobodová. From more than four hundred projects, the committee managed to select over twenty works for advancement to the next round. From this number, ten finalists emerged, and rewards were not to be missed. The jury selected three winning projects, which were announced and awarded alongside the other finalists during a festive evening.
This social gathering of students and professors was opened by the dean of the faculty with a speech at 6 p.m. The program continued with a charismatic introductory speech from the jury members. However, the audience in the auditorium was already eagerly awaiting the announcement of the winners.
From the ten finalists, three winning projects were selected without ranking, which earned not only the audience's applause and material prizes but, above all, the tangible form of the award – a statuette artistically depicting the word “FUCHS.” This honor went to the project "New Residence - MAKOVICE" by the author duo Radka Vilímková and Martin Kůs. The heads of this work were Ing. arch. Jan Mléčka and Ing. arch. Jiří Marek.
The jury was also impressed by the joint work of Veronika Ševčíková and Luďek Šimoník titled "Urban Renewal - Stadterneuerung: BOSKOVICE" under the guidance of doc. Ing.arch. Karel Havliš, Ing.arch. Ondřej Chybík, and Ing.arch. Michal Krištof. The third winning project was the design of a city market in Brno with the subtitle "Five Senses in Architecture" by Bc. Petr Štukheil. The head of this work was prof. Ing.arch. Ivan Koleček, with consultant Ing. arch Lukáš Pecka.
The remaining seven works received the title “Awarded Project” along with a material prize.
A peculiar feature of this year's competition was two separate awards. The first was the Dean's Award of the Faculty of Architecture, which was selected from the finalists by doc. Ing. Josef Chybík. His choice was directed to the project Res publica IV - BRNO-SEVER_vol.1, under the guidance of Ing. Vítězslav Nový. The project was developed by a team of students consisting of Bc. Šárka Červinková, Bc. Martin Janoušek, Bc. Alžbeta Filičková, and Bc. Jan Havlíček. The second extraordinary award was given by the representative of the general sponsor Xella PaedDr. Hana Šimánová to Ms. Tereza Kvapilová for the project of a city market in Brno.
Following the moderator's closing remarks, the evening transitioned to informal entertainment and discussion about the projects, accompanied by music from the band "Rádobynadoby" and a tasting of creations from the compositionally adept catering SOFA.

The organizer of the Bohuslav Fuchs Award is the Student Council of the Faculty of Architecture (SOFA).
Sponsors of the event included companies Xella, ArchiCAD, Legia, Archiweb, ERA21, Sonberk, Cadsys, Velux, Sketch up, VUT in Brno, Starobrno Brewery, and the general sponsor of SOFA for 2014 – Xella.
