Havířov - A new parking lot with 45 spaces is available for people to use in Havířov in the Karviná region behind the apartment building on Železničářů Street. The construction, costing nine million crowns, preceded a major reconstruction of the area in front of the train station, which will be one of the city's most significant investments this year. Jana Kriš, a spokesperson for the magistrate, informed ČTK.
The parking lot made of paving stones also includes new sidewalks, lighting, and an access road. "Originally, this parking lot was to be part of the project for the reconstruction of the station area, which we want to finance from European sources. However, the entire process of applying for the grant is very complex and time-consuming, so we started the reconstruction of the parking lot earlier and from our own resources," stated Mayor Josef Bělica (ANO).
The city also built the new parking lot with consideration that the operation of the area in front of the train station will not be interrupted during the entire reconstruction. However, the parking lot by the station will be part of the construction and will therefore not serve its purpose during the reconstruction. The city is currently preparing a comprehensive reconstruction of the area in front of the train station. The access to the new parking lot from the gas station is thus provisional.
"The company ČEZ is preparing for February, in connection with the reconstruction of the station area, the relocation of high and low voltage cables that run underground along the new parking lot. By mutual agreement between both parties, we have built the access to the new parking lot from the gas station only provisionally. This measure is economically and technically the most suitable. After the cable relocation, we will cover the access surface with a final asphalt layer," said Lenka Krejčová from the investment department of the Havířov magistrate. The completion of landscaping is planned for spring. The area around the parking lot will be grassed, and 15 new trees and 30 bushes will be added.
The city intends to start a competition for the construction work contractor in the coming days for the modernization of the area by the train station, and the actual construction could also begin in the spring, for which the city has obtained European funding. The costs are estimated at more than 120 million crowns.
The project focused on the modernization of the area in front of the railway station building includes the construction of covered bus stops and arrival corridors, the introduction of a bicycle path, the repair of sidewalks and bus bays, as well as public lighting.
