Havířov – The former dispatch building of the railway station in Havířov, Karviná, has transformed into the new Fénix sports and social center. The Fénix hall has been completed and will soon open to visitors. The reconstruction of the interior cost nearly 60 million crowns, said the city hall spokesperson, Rosalie Seidl Pokorná, today.
"One phase of the reconstruction of the railway station in Havířov was to preserve the appearance of the imposing dispatch building. However, significant changes have occurred inside, and now the hall offers ideal conditions for many popular sports activities," the spokesperson stated. In the hall, visitors will be able to play volleyball, badminton, basketball, or go bowling.
The spokesperson reminded that the interior reconstruction of the dispatch building was one of the largest investments the city made this year. "The new mobile space has been equipped with the latest technical facilities for operating the sports and social center. In addition to team sports that require large courts, an interesting feature is the bouldering area, which is essentially a climbing wall with slightly different parameters. Smaller rooms for more intimate sports like ballet, dance, or gymnastics are located in the upper areas," Seidl Pokorná noted. She added that apart from sports activities, the hall can also be used for hosting social events such as concerts, theatrical performances, lectures, exhibitions, screenings, or gala evenings. The final phase of the reconstruction of the Havířov station is planned, which will modernize access to the platforms and tracks.
"The platforms will be fully accessible, receiving new roofing, an information and orientation system, and furniture. Furthermore, there will be a reconstruction of the underpass and its connection to the platforms with new elevators. The accessibility of the station will also improve thanks to the extension of the underpass to the other side of the track towards the Šumbark residential area," the spokesperson specified. During these works, a complete renewal of the station's tracks and the adjacent section to the Havířov střed stop is also planned. New security devices should be added, and the traction wiring and bridge objects will also be repaired. The renovation, which will be managed by the Railway Administration, is expected to start during the next year, according to the spokesperson.
