Brno - Brno has parted ways with a shareholder of the company Brno Parking, which was supposed to build parking garages for the city, but in six years of existence, it did not obtain a single zoning decision. The city held a one-third share in it, but communication with the company was troubled from the start and did not bring the desired effect. The city hall has now settled all receivables and liabilities with the company. The parking garages will not be built by them, but by Brněnské komunikace (BK), said the mayor's deputy Robert Kotzian (ODS) in a press release today. BK is fully owned by the city.
     Kotzian stated that "after years of delays and almost no results, the city is finally getting rid of a non-functional company." It was founded by his predecessors from ODS.
     The Brno opposition called for a breakup with the company Brno Parking half a year ago. They criticized that Brno invested money into it but received nothing in return. The city hall's investment amounted to 1.7 million crowns, and a further 15 million crowns burden its subsidiary Brno Parking, said then councilor Jaroslav Kacer (TOP 09).
     According to the mayor's deputy Ladislav Macek (ČSSD), the liabilities arose because the company had expenses but no revenue. It paid for the documentation for the zoning decision on the construction of the parking garage on Panenská Street as well as for the occupation of public space where the building is to be constructed. An archaeological survey was also conducted there.
     Councilor Vít Beran (KDU-ČSL) criticized it as "upside down" for two companies, both partially private Brno Parking and BK, to organize the construction of parking garages for the city hall. Councilor Martin Ander (SZ) also recommended ending the cooperation. "The company promised to secure private capital, and nothing like that ultimately happened," he stated.
     According to Kotzian, the councilors have now done everything to finally unblock the long-planned construction of parking garages. They recommended to the council to approve the provision of land necessary for the construction of two parking garages precisely by BK. This is to be land on Panenská Street next to the city hall, estimated to be worth 17 million crowns, and land worth four million crowns on Kopečná Street.
