Teplice - Teplice, led by the newly elected management composed of ANO and Volba pro Teplice, is negotiating with the owner of the neglected Hadí lázně, businessman Jaroslav Třešňák. Mayor Jiří Štábl (ANO) told reporters today that the city has a serious interest in purchasing and renovating the property. Třešňák told the Czech News Agency that the parties are still looking for a solution.
The coalition consisting of ANO and ODS collapsed in January after the Civic Democrats decided to terminate the coalition agreement with the victorious movement. Shortly thereafter, ANO reached an agreement with Volba pro Teplice on a new leadership. According to Štábl, the city wants to negotiate with the owners of properties that are in poor condition, which should lead to an improvement of the public space. This is one of the priorities for the city hall.
The city is working to have an appraiser determine the value of the property. "The city has a serious interest in purchasing and renovating the property," the mayor stated. He did not want to specify the future use of the property yet, but it should serve the public according to him. The management envisions that it could be related to spa services and tourism. "We see it as a great shame that this property is deteriorating," Štábl noted.
The management has not yet stated for how much the city would be willing to purchase the spa. Třešňák also mentioned that the city has reached out to him and that a solution is still being discussed. He indicated that he could offer the property to Teplice for 50 years free of charge. He himself wanted to build a children's spa in the neoclassical building from the late 18th century but did not find agreement with heritage conservationists, hygienists, or firefighters, he said. The spa is a cultural monument. According to the conservationists, the proposals for renovation consisted practically of demolishing the building and constructing a new one, which they rejected.
Among other priorities that the city management presented to reporters today is the establishment of a position for a city architect. Deputy Mayor Petr Slavíček (Volba pro Teplice) said that the city should project a well-maintained impression, be free of visual pollution, and the streets should also have a uniform appearance.
The management is also counting on the planned construction of a parking garage on Alejní Street. The architect will complete the study, after which the city hall will commission the project. The city will likely finance the investment from its own resources.
