Brno - The Municipal Swimming Stadium Lužánky, the only 50-meter indoor pool in Brno, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Visitors can enjoy a fun program today - from 10:00 AM water attractions and demonstrations of sports activities, and from 6:00 PM night swimming with a movie screening on a large screen. Admission is free, the city company Starez Sport informed on its website.
Visitors can also relax in the recently renovated relaxation pool. The stainless-steel basin includes benches with jet and massage nozzles, ideal for relaxing after a demanding swim.
The Municipal Swimming Stadium is a monument-protected building, designed by Otakar Opletal. The unique steel structure of the roof was designed by architect Ferdinand Lederer. The structure weighs 350 tons. At the time, it was a demanding endeavor, and according to the monument catalog of the National Heritage Institute, its construction took nearly 10 years.
The indoor hall at Lužánky was ceremonially opened on December 9, 1978. Since 2010, the city of Brno has owned the complex, which has gradually renovated the locker rooms, showers, and toilets. In 2012, the ticket offices received a new look with a turnstile and chip card system, and the windows have been repaired and insulated.
Plans for a new wellness zone include a Finnish sauna, steam sauna, bio sauna, jacuzzi, and a cooling pool. In October, the council selected a construction company and approved an increase in costs from 19 to 32 million crowns. "The increase in price was influenced by the inclusion of the terrace reconstruction by Sportovní Street into this contract. Currently, the terrace is very unsightly and is the visible side of the entire stadium," said Deputy Mayor Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL) recently.
