Brno - Brno is planning to build a social-health complex in the Červený kopec area for more than 423 million crowns. The city council approved the investment intention today, said the mayor's deputy Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL) to reporters. According to him, the complex is set to offer nearly 200 beds, which for the first time in the country could be partially funded by health insurance and partially by social insurance.
"I discussed this with the Ministry of Health. Currently, we have services for seniors in long-term care hospitals, but also in homes with special regimes. And although these people have the same needs and difficulties, each service is funded by a different insurance," Hladík stated.
The area in Červený kopec has been functioning as a long-term care hospital since the 1960s. However, it is no longer in good condition, and the operation of the long-term care unit there has ended. An architectural competition has been announced for the redesign of the area, which has resulted in a study. This year and next year, project documentation should be created, and construction should take place in 2021 and 2022.
The area currently has four pavilions, three of which will be replaced by three-story buildings connected by an entrance hall reminiscent of an inner square. There will also be a park. One original pavilion will remain, be renovated, and serve as an educational, informational, and social center with a café.
The new buildings will offer 198 social-health beds, including beds for daytime care. According to Hladík, they should provide care for cancer patients, people recovering from strokes, or patients with neurodegenerative disorders.
