Blansko - The town hall in Blansko is looking for a way to demolish the dilapidated Hotel Dukla located in the central Republic Square this year. Blasting the extensive building would be dangerous, so it can be dismantled piece by piece, which might be too costly, or with the help of demolition machines with claws that will crush the walls. This is indeed a cheaper, but also noisier option, said Blansko's Deputy Mayor Jiří Crha (ODS) to ČTK today. The demolition will start in April. The councilors approved ten million crowns for the project. This amount must not be exceeded. For this money, the building should be torn down and a park created on the released 3000 square meters. "If we go for the gradual dismantling route, the demolition may become more expensive. If the machine claws bite into the walls, we can save up to 40 percent of the estimated costs," stated the deputy mayor. The problem is that demolition machines are noisy. Therefore, the city will have a noise study conducted to advise the town hall on which of the two options to choose. Crha reminded that the hotel is located in the city center. It is adjacent to buildings containing dozens of apartments and shops. The demolition of Dukla and subsequent work on the square's adjustments will last until autumn. Hotel Dukla was a luxury establishment during communism, offering accommodation to visitors of the Moravian Karst from abroad. It later fell into disrepair. According to architects, it does not suit the city center due to its appearance. The city purchased the property six years ago out of concern that it would become accommodation for the socially disadvantaged. It did not find a use for it. The residents of Blansko decided on the demolition in a recent referendum.
