Blansko - Blansko is searching for a use for 3000 m² in the city center that will remain after the demolition of the dilapidated Hotel Dukla. The city plans to carry out the demolition from May until the end of August next year. It is expected to cost approximately eight million crowns. The city council also wants to allocate an additional two million crowns to transform the resulting space into a park decorated with artistic cast iron. Everything should be completed by November 2015. This was stated today by Mayor Ivo Polák (ČSSD).
"Architects will prepare two versions of the park. Since the production of artistic cast iron has a long tradition in the city, we will display some of the cast iron sculptures from the city museum there," the mayor said.
The city will publish both options and invite the public to select which one they prefer, for example on the Blansko website. However, the park should only be temporary on Republic Square.
The city considers this plot as a building site. However, the city council does not have the funds for new construction. It will wait to see if any developers express interest in the construction.
"We do not know if the park will be on the square for a year, two, ten, or twenty years," said the mayor. He reminded that the demolition of the hotel will be complicated. The building cannot be blown up due to the safety of people and the stability of the surrounding buildings. The councilors have already decided that the destruction of the hotel and the creation of the park must cost less than ten million crowns.
Hotel Dukla was a luxurious establishment during communism, offering accommodation to visitors of the Moravian Karst from abroad. Later, it fell into disrepair. According to architects, it does not fit the center of the city due to its appearance. The city purchased the building five years ago due to concerns from residents that the hotel would turn into a hostel for the non-compliant. It has not found a use for it. The residents of Blansko decided on demolition in a recent referendum.
