Litomyšl (Svitavy) - A generous project for the castle hill in Litomyšl, which is to be financed by the European Union, is changing its proposals on the go. Although it will cost the expected half a billion crowns, for example, the roof and stage at the castle will look different than originally designed by the architect. Further changes in usage are also expected for the Piarist college. This was stated to journalists today by former mayor Miroslav Brýdl.

"We have divided the project into two. The city will apply for grants for the castle hill, while the preservationists will apply for the castle. We did not reach an agreement with them on the loan of the castle," said Brýdl.
The preservationists did not like the original design of a retractable roof recessed into the ground in the castle courtyard, where the Smetanova Litomyšl music festival regularly takes place. According to Brýdl, an optimal solution is being sought.
"The projects are a crazy amount of work. We handed over the developed studies by architect Pleskot to the preservationists, who will incorporate them into their project," said Brýdl.
In the Piarist college, there will ultimately not be restoration workshops, but a backup ceremonial hall, so the city can offer an adequate space for wedding parties when it may not be possible to hold ceremonies at the castle during the music festival, for example. "In the college, we will also not be building an attic with dormers to fit into the expected investments," Brýdl stated.
The castle hill includes, besides the castle, the former brewery, the Manor House, the coach house, stables, the riding hall, the Piarist college, and the church; the area also includes an English and a French park. A Diocesan Museum is supposed to be established in the church sacristy, and the riding hall will become a multipurpose hall. The reconstruction of the third floor will provide the castle with new exhibition spaces. The castle gardens will also undergo modifications. The city would like to continue with the repairs of the second part of the brewery as well. The town hall has divided the hill into seven zones, for which they hired five architects, including Josef Pleskot, who had already worked in Litomyšl during the brewery reconstruction.
"In about two weeks, we should submit our project to the Ministry of Culture," Brýdl said. The total repairs managed by the city are expected to cost nearly 400 million crowns. The town hall, which has already spent 11 million crowns on the project, will present it to the residents on May 26. Representatives from the town hall and architects will participate.
