Litomyšl (Svitavsko) - The revitalization of the castle hill in Litomyšl has progressed to the next phase. The city is selecting a construction company. Repairs that have been long in preparation could begin in four months. The completion of all work is planned for 2013. This was stated today by Mayor Michal Kortyš (ODS).
"We have given ourselves four months, including possible appeals, then we could start," said Kortyš.
The repairs of historical monuments in the center of Litomyšl have been prepared by the city hall since 2007. The city has received a 100% grant from the state and the European Union, amounting to 400 million crowns. The selection process is divided into two parts, construction and restoration.
"It was the wish of the Ministry of Culture, restoration work is specific and should be done by a specialized company. So far, we have approved the construction part, the restoration part is still being handled by the National Heritage Institute," said the mayor.
The adjustment of the castle hill includes the reconstruction of a number of heritage sites. By 2013, seven buildings and four open spaces are to be repaired. The reconstruction will affect the castle brewery, riding hall, carriage house, stable, horse riding hall, Piarist college, and church. Visitors to the monuments should expect minor restrictions.
"The contract terms stipulate that construction work must not limit regular events, such as Smetana's Litomyšl. Access to the castle and brewery will remain open. There will be a small exception at the church and museum, where public spaces will also be modified," said the mayor.
