Litomyšl (Svitavy) - Litomyšl has extended the deadline for the completion of the European project Castle Hill from the end of this year to August 2014, in order to complete the investment of 400 million crowns on time. This was said today by Mayor Michal Kortyš (ODS) to reporters. The Castle Hill project includes the restoration of seven historical buildings and four open spaces, as well as restoration works.
"We have given ourselves more time. I am curious about Český Krumlov, which has 14 months for repairs and is just starting," said Kortyš.
Construction and restoration works in Litomyšl will mostly be completed this year, but there are still so-called soft projects left, such as preparing programs and exhibitions for adults and children.
The city has already opened the riding hall and the castle brewery, which is the birthplace of composer Bedřich Smetana.
"A part of the stable is completed, the first courtyard is finished, and the Piarist college is being completed, which should be done in about a month. In two months, the construction work in the church will be finished, and then the restored items will be placed there," said Kortyš.
Archaeological finds have complicated the progress of construction work for the city, and now there is also an issue with administration. Their project was first managed by the Ministry of Culture, and now the agenda is transitioning to the Ministry for Regional Development, said city hall spokesperson Michaela Severová.
Cultural programs will be overseen by a city-funded organization called Castle Hill. The organization has already introduced the project School at the Castle for children from elementary schools. Students will not only learn history in the classroom but will also spend time in the garden, church, museum, and castle riding hall.
