In the competition for the design of the former Světovar brewery space, the proposal from the D3A studio won among twenty teams.
The city of Plzeň announced a public single-round urban planning and architectural competition in May through the Department of Concept and Development of the City of Plzeň for the preparation of an ideal design solution for the Světovar space – the area of the former brewery. Twenty teams applied for the competition, which aimed to obtain a quality proposal for the spatial and functional arrangement of the former brewery area. The jury decided on the winner, which was the team from the Prague studio D3A (proposal No. 17), on the evening of Thursday, August 5, 2010. The public can familiarize themselves with all the evaluated proposals at an exhibition that will take place in the Světovar area starting on August 30.
All competition proposals took into account the city's requirement for the location and operation of a design and lifestyle museum, a multi-genre cultural center, and a city archive. The winning proposal includes spaces for housing, administration, culture, as well as parking spaces in the area. The jury recommends using the winning proposal for further detailed development in collaboration with its authors.
The second prize in the competition was awarded to a team composed of Ing. arch. Pavel Hnilička, Ing. arch. Marek Řehoř, Bc. Veronika Kommová (proposal No. 8), and the third prize went to a team composed of Ing. arch. Vratislav Danda, Ing. arch. Pavel Ullmann, Ing. arch. Ondřej Smolík, Ing. arch. Jaromír Kosnar (proposal No. 1). The jury further awarded a reward for proposal No. 2 from a team composed of Ing. Mgr. art. Martin Vanko, Ing. Mgr. art. Ľubomír Fuňa, Mgr. art. Martin Antal, Mgr. art. Jakub Kausitz.
