Plzeň - Plzeň wants to complete the renovation of the former barracks and brewery Světovar as soon as possible, the area covers five hectares. Plans include hundreds of apartments, another technology park, and a parking garage. This was stated today by Deputy Mayor Pavel Bosák (Pirates). The brownfield will see the largest investments in recent years this year. On Wednesday, the TechTower I technology park began operations at a cost of 780 million CZK, and by mid-March, the city transport company is preparing to launch a tram depot worth 1.7 billion.

Opposite the opened TechTower I are two abandoned dilapidated buildings - a boiler house with a former distribution warehouse for soldiers and a villa with offices. Both are protected as historical monuments, and the city will gradually repair and convert them into TechTower II. "In the back part, there would be a polygon for testing robots underground and on the surface, as well as prototype workshops, laboratories, and offices," said Luděk Šantora, head of the city's information technology administration, which operates TechTower. He estimated the costs at 300 million CZK. According to Bosák, there would also be a center for the creative industry.

"The city will seek grants for the revitalization of brownfields. Opportunities will certainly arise. It is an interesting development area in line with all the strategic goals of the city," said Bosák. According to him, new European and national grant titles are highly focused on innovative projects and support for businesses. "We are already designing TechTower II. We have started the back section. The internal layout will be preserved with minimal costs," Šantora said.

According to Bosák, the new documentation being prepared for residential and multifunctional buildings has already secured funding in the city budget. The previous city leadership prepared a construction study for two buildings with 74 apartments there, with plans for hundreds overall according to Bosák. "We want to build municipal rental housing; of the upcoming residential projects, this is currently the largest. We are initiating the documentation phase for the zoning decision, which takes months," he said. The project with a building permit could be completed within two years. "They will be municipal rental apartments, not necessarily social, but starter homes for families with children or for essential professions," Bosák stated.

The city needs to build a parking garage with more than 300 spaces as soon as possible at its own expense, to free up and modify the gravel area in front of TechTower I towards the depot, which is currently serving as a temporary parking lot. "It is a key investment for the development of this area; we will try to find sources as soon as possible," Bosák said. The state should contribute about 250 million CZK.
