The eighth year of the renewed student project competition Bohuslav Fuchs Award took place on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. On this day, the Faculty of Architecture in Brno hosted three expert judges and three members of the student jury. The invitation was accepted by architect Mrs. Eichlerová, who works at the architectural studio EA - architekti in Brno, along with her husband. The experienced Prague architect Regina Loukotová — founder of ARCHIP, a private university of architecture in Prague — also did not hesitate to come. Mr. Petr Klíma made the long journey from Plzeň to Brno. This architect, architectural theorist, educator, and organizer enhanced the lineup of the expert jury. The jury was joined by three names from last year's laureates: Tereza Dvořáková, Radek Pasterný, and Jan Havlíček. The commission, in this composition, roamed the halls and studios of the Faculty of Architecture from the early hours to find the most valuable student projects among the submissions. This day-long marathon culminated at five o'clock in the afternoon with the final selection of awarded and winning works. The announcement took place in the studio's artistic workshop, where the long-awaited names of the winners were revealed before a full audience of students and faculty. The first three works earned their authors not only unique trophies but also a range of prizes and rewards. One of the main awards went to "Ječměniště … kontinuita bez distance?" Tereza Novotná for her winning project. The design was created under the guidance of the architectural tandem of Jan Foretník and Barbora Ponešová. Her colleague Martin Bělkovský also earned the title "winning work" with his project "Cabane Rambert" . His project was led by Professor Ivan Koleček. The trio of the best was closed by an extensive project on Monasteries and Colleges by Jan Kubát and Markéta Strnková from the studio of Associate Professor Karel Havliš. Another seven finalists also received valuable prizes. The title "best studio" was awarded to the studio of Barbora Ponešová and Jan Foretník. It impressed the jury the most in terms of student collaboration, the formulation and quality of the brief, and the processing of individual projects. The jury awarded a special prize to the project "Architecture of Scarcity" by the studio of Jan Mléčka and Jiří Marek. An honorary guest and representative of the general sponsor was Hana Šimánová from XELLA, who selected and awarded the project by Eva Horáková titled NO SPACE – Strategy for Gradual Utilization of Gaps in the City. Winning and awarded projects received numerous valuable prizes, especially from sponsors and partners of this competition. Notable prizes included subscriptions to the magazine ERA21, extraordinary scholarships from the Faculty of Architecture, wine from the Sonberk winery, and gift packages from VUT. The announcement was followed by casual entertainment and discussions about the projects, accompanied by live music and tastings of delicacies from the kitchens of skilled female students of the Faculty of Architecture, generously sponsored by the VIZarch studio.
The organizer of the Bohuslav Fuchs Award is the Student Community of the Faculty of Architecture (SOFA). Sponsors and partners of the event included the companies XELLA, archiweb.cz, ERA21, Legia, Sonberk, VIZarch, FA VUT, and VUT in Brno. The event took place with the support of the Faculty of Architecture of VUT in Brno.
