The goal was to respond to the philosophy of the reSITE organization and its theme this year, Invisible city. The intention was to provide a variable space for year-round operation. We decided to split the building unit of 40-foot containers in half to better meet operational requirements, the shape of the land, and offer part of the land as a public space. The containers are placed on rails, which allows us to work with them as modular elements and to adapt both the external and internal spaces in various ways. This will serve two main purposes. Firstly, to accommodate summer and winter operations. During the summer season, the containers can be arranged freely for maximum use of the land's spaces. In the winter period, the containers can be grouped into a compact form, where operational and thermal technical aspects can be better addressed. Secondly, these modular containers will be able to adapt to the demands of clients or specific events, creating different atmospheres for the place. In response to the location, the spaces are oriented concentrically. The central area is used as a sitting place or possibly as an amphitheater. Its capacity can be regulated using sliding containers. The central area is completed with a stepped seating area positioned on the axis. In the design, we focus on three basic materials: the original cladding of the containers, clear glass, and translucent polycarbonate. The original structures of the containers are coated with black paint, and the white glowing polycarbonate corresponds with the colors of reSITE. A characteristic feature of the place will be the cantilevered mass above the entrance to the site. This is a container completely covered in polycarbonate, which will both shine into the surroundings and can serve for projections and artistic displays. Along the entire structure of rails under the containers, there is a wooden terrace that facilitates barrier-free access and offers the possibility to use the hardened space between the containers as a dance floor, seating, or stage. The initial impulse for our concept was a play on words (in)visible, invisible, visible, visible from the inside, invisible from the outside.
