Single-round project public anonymous architectural competition Organizer: Company Petra Parléře, o.p.s. Co-organizer: City of Cheb Deadline: 11. 12. 2014 - 2. 3. 2015
The subject of the competition was the development of an architectural design for the revitalization of the Dominican Monastery in Cheb, linking to Jánské Square, for the use of the Jindřich Jindřich Elementary Art School. The assignment also included suitable completion of the adjacent locality, particularly the area of Jánské Square, Kamenná Street, and Dominikánská Street. The purpose and mission of the competition were to find the most suitable solution for the subject of the competition and subsequently allow the commissioned work to be assigned to one of the awarded for the processing of subsequent performance phases of project work in accordance with § 23 subsection 6 of Act No. 137/2006 Coll., on public procurement. A total of 27 competition proposals were submitted. One proposal was submitted after the competition deadline and was therefore excluded from evaluation. The jury met to evaluate the competition proposals on March 9, 2015, with the following composition:
Regular members: Ing. Petr Navrátil, Mayor of the city Ing. Pavel Hojda, Deputy Mayor Ing. arch. Aleš Burian Ing. arch. Petr Hájek Ing. arch. Michael Třeštík Alternate: Ing. Pavel Šturc, Head of the Investment Department Invited experts: Jiří Smitek, Director of the Elementary Art School Mgr. Jana Konůpková Horváthová, NPÚ Loket
The jurors decided to award the following competition proposals:
1st prize – proposal no. 14 – amount 300,000,- A telier Brandštetr s.r.o. / Marek Brandštetr, Ivo Chmelař, Jan Šárka, Lena Trpělková
Jury evaluation: The decisive quality of the proposal is the generously handled entrance, which opens the space of the area to the public space. The modern form brings a new quality to the historical foundation, is distinctly readable, and leaves a measured mark of contemporaneity. The jury unanimously awarded the proposal 1st prize.
2nd prize – proposal no. 2 – amount 150,000,- M ichal Říha, Tadeáš Říha, Martin Špičák, Kateřina Frejlachová
Jury evaluation: The quality of the proposal lies in the attempt to create a solution that would not establish a rigid definitive boundary between the school, public, and rented parts, but rather allow this boundary to change and shift according to the needs of the school and the possibilities of commercial use of the other spaces. Attention is paid to the outdoor and adjacent open spaces, such as the corner of Úzká and Dominikánská streets. The authors harmonize the operational relationships in the building with several precisely chosen minimalist interventions, without interfering with the original structures. The newly designed elements are, however, expressionally autonomous and clearly acknowledge their function, not only operationally but also aesthetically.
3rd prize – proposal no. 15 – amount 100,000,- Masák & Partner, s.r.o. / Jakub Masák, Daniel Jeništa, Martin Růžička, Petr Němejc
Jury evaluation: The contribution of the proposal is the original and historically sensitive solution for the community hall, which is based on the original character of the building and interestingly elaborates on it and cleans it from historical mass growths. This brings a significant enhancement of both main halls in terms of daylighting while simultaneously clarifying and streamlining the spatial solution.
