Jičín - The city of Jičín has announced an architectural and landscaping competition for the design of the Cidlina recreational zone. Architects can submit their proposals until May 31. The winner is expected to prepare all phases of the project documentation for the city. The city estimates the costs for the competition and the preparation of project documentation at nearly four million crowns. The costs for the actual construction of the recreational zone, which will cover an area of approximately 7.5 hectares, are estimated by the city at 40 million crowns. Jan Jireš, the city's spokesperson, stated this today.

In recent months, the city hall has held various forms of discussions with residents about the appearance of the zone. "The conditions for the architectural competition include all opinions from citizens, including anonymized contributions on social media. There is also a complete audio recording and a text summary from the meeting that took place in January at the Biograf Český ráj," Jireš noted.

The documentation for the construction of the zone could be completed by the end of 2021. Subsequently, the actual construction could begin.

The zone is set to be created on currently unused land between the Nové Město housing estate and the Cidlina River. "The location is prepared; the city has already purchased the necessary land in the zone, and we have negotiated with ČEZ to relocate the high-voltage power lines," earlier stated Deputy Mayor Petr Hamáček (Association for Jičín).

The transformation of the area is expected to be gradual and should take several years. Within the Cidlina zone, a walking trail and park, space for sports activities, relaxation areas, barbecue spots, children's play areas, and in-line skating tracks are to be created.

In the future, the city plans to connect two streets on opposite sides of the zone. The construction of access roads for automotive traffic is not currently included in the planned budget of forty million crowns.

In recent years, the city has organized architectural competitions for the design of the Máj kindergarten and for the transformation of the former barracks into a residential neighborhood. The preparation of the barracks area for new construction is among the current priorities of the city. The city estimates the costs for building infrastructure in the area at 200 million crowns.
