Jičín - The municipality of Jičín, a town of sixteen thousand inhabitants, would like to create a recreational area in the currently unused location between the largest housing estate, Nové Město, and the Cidlina River, with an estimated cost of about 55 million crowns. The city wants to secure a subsidy of 25 million crowns from grant programs of the Proměny Foundation for the construction. The transformation of the area is expected to be gradual and should take five years. This was announced today by the spokesperson of the municipality, Magdaléna Doležalová.
The Cidlina zone is expected to feature a walking trail and park, space for sports activities, resting areas, barbecue corners, play areas for children, and in-line skating tracks. Plans also include the construction of water bodies and a parking house for the residents of Nové Město. In the future, the city also envisions connecting two streets at opposite ends of the zone.
In the past, Jičín already applied for a grant from the Proměny Foundation for the Cidlina zone, but two years ago it finished in second place and did not receive the funding. The foundation recommended that the city involve the public in the creation of the project and the future design of the zone and also finalize the purchases of necessary land in the area. For example, local school students shared their opinions on the design of the zone, and local residents expressed their views on parking arrangements. The city has acquired the land and has also negotiated with ČEZ on relocating the high-voltage lines.
In addition to the funding from the foundation, the city is prepared to contribute about 30 million crowns of its own resources to the project. A specific design for the area is expected to be provided by an architectural competition, which could take place next year.
