At the Faculty of Art and Architecture of the Technical University of Liberec, another year of the student competition Ještěd F in the cage took place. The ceremonial handover occurred in the large studio of FUA TUL on June 6, 2012, and the traveling statuette of Ještěd F in the cage was this time taken down from a large cake by first-year student Jakub Dvořák.
In this semester, students welcomed a jury with a very diverse composition at the university: Petr Burian (DaM), Jakub Cigler (Cigler Marani Architects), Věra Konečná (bydleni-iq.cz), Petr Stolín (atelier Stolín), Jan Tabor (theoretician of architecture), Mirek Vodák (cb-arch.blogspot.com). The evaluation was very tense until the last moment. The hardest part for the jury was to find a criterion by which to evaluate the projects, as there were too many themes and significant differences between works across all years. In the end, ten projects were selected, half of which were nominated, four were awarded, and one was the winner.
Best Assignment: As is customary, the jury selects one of the seven studios each semester that it considers the best in terms of overall quality of work and quality topics. This year, the jury decided not to point out the best but instead appreciated the most interesting assignments. The theme Kuks in the studio of Zdeněk Fránek and Radek Suchánek, which dealt with the remnants of this baroque complex. The assignment was addressed in cooperation with the Civic Association New Forest, whose mission is: “the rescue, restoration, and development of cultural and natural heritage by fulfilling the social, artistic, and landscape legacy of F. A. Špork with contemporary people for the future.” Additionally, Pavilion in the center of Liberec and Row House in Boskovice. Both of these assignments were to be processed by the first-year studio led by Petr Šmídek and Petr Janoš. In the assignment Pavilion in the center of Liberec, the freshmen were tasked to find inadequately used or unused places with hidden potential in Liberec and to respond to the location with a small object that has a new function. Row House in Boskovice, where the task was to create a new northern line of the street Pod Klášterem, consisting of row family houses for a diverse clientele. One student, one house, and in each house a client according to their own imagination.
Nominations: Mountain Spa in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm by Marek Svoboda from the studio of Jiří Buček and Filip Horatschke. Bachelor's project by Marta Chaloupková City Library for the Mosaic of Boskovice, which was created under the supervision of Zdeněk Fránek and Radek Suchánek. Project Crematorium in Mladá Boleslav by Lukáš Koubek, which captivated everyone with its presentation made without a computer. Ondřej Štěpán with the proposal contemplative island on the Vltava River from the studio of Antonín Novák and Vladimír Balda. Tamara Staňková with the bachelor project School of Sculpture as part of the Kuks assignment from the studio of Zdeněk Fránek and Radek Suchánek.
Awards:
The best of the best! Each of these awarded could have been Ještěd. The decision was difficult.
Jindřich Ráftl, who designed and even realized The Educational Center in Kejdom Keku in Cameroon. The project was supported by the studio of Zdeněk Fránek and Radek Suchánek. Stanislav Pech with a very strong proposal Hotel for Kuks with a series of additional related operations, where the entire object is more of a public space than a single enclosed building. Milada Vorzová and the project for the revitalization of the former dairy in Mišně, where the author created a new Community Center, again under the guidance of Zdeněk Fránek and Radek Suchánek. Libor Šenekel in the studio of Antonín Novák created a new island on the Vltava as part of the assignment Memorial to Václav Havel.
The absolute winner became first-year student Jakub Dvořák! For the project Herb Garden, as a pavilion in the center of Liberec, and also for his house in the row house in Boskovice, which he conceptualized as a House for Nature Lovers.
