Žatec (Lounsko) - A new bus station serves travelers in Žatec. The construction of the transport terminal with a waiting area and landscaped surroundings cost 46.4 million crowns, with a grant from the Regional Operational Program (ROP) Northwest covering 85 percent of the costs. The office is now checking whether the municipality made any mistakes in the public procurement process. The mayor of the town, Zdeňka Hamousová (Choice for the City), said this to ČTK today.

The municipality handed over the construction site to the contractor at the beginning of February. During the reconstruction, people had to use temporary stops when traveling to nearby towns and villages. From Saturday, the lines will again depart from the station. "We perceive the newly opened bus terminal as the entrance gate to our historic town. The architectural contribution is evident, as the terminal stylistically and structurally corresponds with the city's heritage preservation area and functionally embraces this part of the town," the mayor stated.
A new passage will be opened to Oblouková Street with new office buildings. Until now, travelers had no facilities at the station. They can now use the waiting area with Wi-Fi access and restrooms. The platforms are covered, all utility networks have new connections, and the sidewalks and roads have been improved.
For those heading from the bus station to the main train station, a new staircase will facilitate their journey, linking the terminal with Po Střelnicí Street.
The chosen contractor adhered to the construction completion deadline. The project is now being reviewed by the ROP Northwest office. "The Regional Council of ROP SZ is addressing whether there were any errors in the contracting authority's procedure regarding the strict qualification requirements for the contractor," the mayor mentioned.
This is a standard public administration inspection, said Pavel Žinčík, head of the director's office, to ČTK. According to him, the usual timeframe for disbursing the grant is twenty days from the end of the inspection after the payment request is submitted. Žatec may file objections against the inspection results.
