Žatec (Lounsko) - This year, Žatec will complete the reconstruction of the bus station for tens of millions of crowns. The complete transformation into a modern transportation terminal is to be finished in September, with European subsidies helping the city with financing. This was stated by the deputy mayor of Žatec, Jaroslav Špička (Choice for the City), to ČTK. According to him, the political situation in the city will not jeopardize the completion of the project.

"This involves a complete reconstruction of the entire terminal. Its graphic design was created by local architects and designers and will fit into the modern industrial look of Žatec. Construction began in February and is expected to be completed in September," Špička stated. The city won the project with a bid of 38 million crowns, but according to Špička, the final budget will likely be a bit higher.
After the reconstruction, the terminal is expected to retain its circular appearance, with facilities such as a waiting room and restrooms moving to a new building. Departure platforms will be covered, and the entire station will be monitored by a camera system. "We are afraid of vandals. Therefore, we place particularly great emphasis on security," the deputy mayor added.
According to him, the political situation in Žatec can no longer jeopardize ongoing projects. After the council's dissolution, for the first time in the city's history, the council's functions had to be taken over by the councilors. They now have to meet significantly more often to address the city’s operational matters. In addition to Jaroslav Špička, only the mayor Zdeňka Hamousová (Choice for the City) remains at the head of Žatec; the other councilors have resigned.
